I just called my dealership and their response is a bit conflicting. I wonder if any of you guys can help me out. I have a 2008 528i with no NAV but I can play mp3 cd's (no cd changer). I was quoted $355 for the iPod adapter and was told I will not be able to do it myself. Does my iDrive need reprogramming? Or does the ipod menu show up under the CD menu?
Correct. If you don't have NAV you need additional programming even if you can play mp3 cd's

been reading up on been able to play mp3 cd's from the cd player ... and having spoke to my local BMW dealers , im still not sure what I need to do and the dealers didnt have any idea what I was on about .. it was a new thing to them to enable mp3 function .. ??

Ive got 2005 E60 , no Nav or Cd Changer ...

Going to pop into dealers this week and try and explain that all I want is the MP3 enabling ..

Any help ?? THANKS
If you don't have NAV then only enabling mp3 won't make it work. there is another programming that needs to take place as well.

If there's one thing that pisses me off more than anything, it's an incompetent dealer, or a dealer that isn't bothered.

I just bought the OEM interface ( for cars with CDC ) and asked the dealer to install for me while they updated my 2006 model E60 M5. ( My car is a July 2005 build ). I just got a call from the technician saying that he couldn't install it because there's an "adaptor/connector" missing.

I am sure the interface kit comes with everything you need to just plug it into where the CD changer is.

When I asked him if the new software will enable the ipod feature, he couldn't answer.

Looks like another trip to the dealer tomorrow morning for lecturing.

Here's some pics of the install. I think they are pretty self explanatory except that the CD-Changer screws don't come out. They just loosen and then permits you to pull the unit out. I fixed the iPod interface with the supplied cable ties. No drilling no nothing. Plug n Play.

PM me if you want the BMW service bulletin that will permit you to get the mp3 retrofit done for free, which enables you to play MP3 CD's or use the iPod interface. Or if you want the official BMW ipod interface installation instructions.
I have a BMW 06 530i with only a single CD changer . I looked in the glove compartment where there is room to put and CD changer or the Ipod adpator box. I notices there is a plug inside the glove compartment with two wire going to it. Is this the place where I can connect the Ipod adapter to it? From there picture it look as if there are two more wire needed but I not sure becuase it look like it can plug right into the ipod adater. My question to anybody who is familar with this stuff is there anything else I would need to do as far as connecting the ipod adapter to the cars wiring ?

Hello,
I just bought a 2007 530i from the dealership. I was under the impression that I would be able to play mp3 format cds (compressed files) through the in dash cd player... i put one in and it just says "no readable disk"... i have navigation but no cd changer or ipod interface in the glove box.
Is there something I can do to be able to play mp3 cds through the cd player or is this not an option? If it is possible, can somebody please walk me through it? My car is still under warrenty for a few months if that matters.

Thank you!
