My Ride: 2006 550i Silver Grey w/ Sports Package
Default

Looking to do this next week. When researching on realoem.com I noticed two version of the rear window seal. One for regular glass and the other for climate comfort glass. I have a 06 550i sport pkg hud... the only options I don't have is the cold weather pkg, active steering and night vision.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase the proper version.

^ I do have the cold weather package and I just got the normal one. Also don't forget to get some gummi fledge from amazon for like $8, to keep all the rubber trim on the car looking new.

So i live in Germany and went to get a quote on replace the seal and the man was like its going to cost 150 euros (about $200) for labor and about 40 euros (about $65) for part. He said they had to remove the windshield and it was a very time consuming task so thats why the labor was so much. Well good thing i found this forum because i was about to give in because i wanted my car to look good. I feel like going back and telling them they are full of it. So i just want to say thanks to all you all for the info and i shall do it myself and save me some money and out it towards my AUX or Ipod plug in installation.

Has anyone noticed bottom front windshield is cracking too... can't find a part for that anywhere. I wonder if that could be replaced too?

The ESC tuning site where most are purchasing the rear window top and side replacement seal has two versions of this seal available. One version is for models with rear comfort glass, Protective Glazing, or safety glass. My question is how do know which type of rear glass do you have? Are these rear window types a special order item or did they come standard with one of the package options (I.e., sport pkg, cold weather pkg, Premium pkg)? Thanks.

Finally got around doing mine. The ease of this is literally a joke. It really shouldn't take more than 10 minutes for removal and install.

Yup, took me a little longer just because I wanted to clean the channel really well. Other than that, "it's so easy a caveman can do it"

I actually removed mine and have been driving the car without the rear window trim at all. Ive grown used to the look of it and noticed most cars don't even have the trim from factory. It doesnt seem to affect the water passage areas either. I just got back from a 2000+ mile road trip and drove through crazzzzzy rain and no leaks in trunk or any issues at all. What do you guys think? I do still have the bottom rubber trim installed
