Great thread. I was looking for this info. My rear weatherstrip needs attention b/c after installing a roof spoiler, the 3M tape is so strong that it lifts the rubber strip creating a gap on freeway speeds so much that I can hear the increased wind noise. It seems the more mods I do, the more luxury and comfort is compromised.

Anyone have a solution to have the weatherstrip air tight again? I am thinking pull roof spoiler off, install a new rubber strip if necessary and re-install spoiler on glass avoiding rubber strip - the long route. The short route is to bury the gap under rubber strip with 3M windo seal or some kind of sealant, which may create more heart burn when all this need to be removed....pain in the behind diy, bro! HELP!!!

I did my rear seal a few months ago following this thread, and it was very easy. 30-45 minutes. The longest part was cleaning up the old residue from the old seal, before putting on the new seal. Now I'm getting ready to order the front.

I am amazed at how little these so called glass experts know about replacing the front windshield trim. I bought the trim from ecstuning and tried to install it last night. I could not completly remove the old trim so i called around to see if they could finish the job. 15 places all stated that the windshield has to be removed and that it would cost 100-200 dollars!!!! Thats insane! Any ideas on what i can do besides paying them the money. Anyways, i think i will stop at autozone and see if they could assist me. Any advice would be appreciated. I am having trouble removing the part that is in between the roof and windshield. I am assuming its tucked in...the rest of the trim was so bad that it was flaking apart. Thanks!

they told me at another shop that since I have a small crack that I had repaired in the middle of the windshield that when they would try to pull out the windshield, it will crack. So basically i have to get a new windshield as well if I want the rubber trim to be installed.

Also, they said that since the windshield had already been replaced with an aftermarket one, they could not just simply remove and replace the trim as you could do with the OEM windshield.

I just did my front and back yesterday, the back came off real easy with a plastic pry tool and the new trim installed in less than 10 minutes. The front was a little more difficult, mine had degraded to just the metal piece, I pryed it up with a plastic tool then had to yank it out with a pair needle nose. The front trim was also harder to press in but still just 20 minutes.

Thanks for the info and tips everyone!

I just ordered my rear window cover (part 51317027916) thru ECS Tuning. Called two bmw dealerships in SoCal (Shelly and Crevier) and their prices were ~$72 and ~$78 with tax, respectively. Thus it was cheaper to buy it from ECS for ~$60 including the $20 delivery charge. ECS sells the OEM part.

Hope to install it next weekend. Once again this forum is awesome!!
