My Ride: Silverstone 2007 BMW M5. Acquired June 2009 ... with only 5,600 kms, and A$100k off new car price!
Amethyst Grey 2004 BMW 545i standard Australian delivered specs including: 6 speed Steptronic, Active Steering, Standard Cruise Control (not Active CC), Bi-Xenon with Adaptive Headlights, 8.8" colour monitor with Professional Navigation, TV and Voice Recognition, Elec rear sun blind. Options: BMW 124 alloys, elec sports seats, full BMW M-tech body kit, darkest Aust legal window tint, 2000 kg tow hitch, cubby box
Just saw this thread.
Stillwells in South Yarra installed the "oem" towbar onto the 545 back in 2005 to tow my racecar.
Physical installation of the bar took only a few hours. It was the reprogramming of the computer that took over 8 hours! Apparently it crashed several times during the download. It all worked out in the end....the car knew to turn off the rear parking sensors when it was in reverse and knew which globe was blown on the trailer!
Enjoy towing with the Bimmer ... a very civilised way to tow!

Bassically this option suited me most, however its really upto whoever.
Cannot wait til summer rolls along here in Australia... i'll be towing the ski to the beach every day!!!

I've just fitted a nice Westfalia Swan Neck towbar to my E61 SE. Only a tiny cut of the bumper required and that's underneath (so not visible). On an SE some towbars don't require any number cuts (but you will need to cut a bit out of the undertray).
