Hi Breae60
Thanks for the kind words re: web site...
Iceman is GOD (), I am a normal anorak ()...!! Whilst developing the loom and making it safe was difficult, installing the whole thing is dead easy. The most important instruction is to move the steering column out and down, and drivers seat fully back - before disconnecting the battery!!! As with other BMW models, once the battery is off, the airbags can be removed without problems. Just have to be careful in handling the airbags - not dropping them etc..
Install time is about 2 hours I guess - 1 hour if you are good at DIY and already know how to disassemble your car!!!
Cost of wheel - I think I posted this earlier.... about ? 370 + tax. No idea how much it would cost in the US...
All the Best

Yes it is custom made wiring loom with switching interface box.
Which countries have the steering wheel heating option then?? the obvious ones are finland, norway etc.. i suppose.

Hi Breae60
The M5 wheel part number (wheel rim ONLY - no trims etc..) - 32.34.2.282.862
Afraid that the wiring loom will not be available from BMW because it is a custom loom that I have made myself. I am hoping that the loom and mod parts will be released soon...

Hi Iceman
I have completed the wiring loom for your steering wheel mod. Will call you to arrange meeting...
For anyone that's interested, I have developed a wiring loom that will enable the E60 M5 -/+ Paddles to be used on an E60 that ALREADY has regular Push/Pull SMG. The mod requires only the paddles to be obtained - the steering wheel rim does NOT get changed (unless you really want the M5 wheel).
In Iceman's case, he has a steering wheel with the round airbag, steering wheel heating and push/pull SMG levers. He would like to have the M5 -/+ levers instead.
The wiring loom for this conversion also ENABLES the LED lights in the M5 levers. I have used BMW original parts only.
A picture of the wiring loom and paddles is shown below. I have also included the push/pull levers on the far left and far right sides of the image. The blue tape on the M5 levers is just for protection.
Installation time for this mod will be approx 30 minutes.
All the Best

What a coincidence -- I was just posting in another thread about this issue...
Iceman's car is not an SMG. Did he get an SMG wheel to switch with his factory wheel so he could add the M5 paddles? If so, why not simply install the SMG wheel and add the custom wiring to allow the paddles to shift the step?

Hi Rudy
I thought Iceman had SMG on his car from the beginning..... DOH!!!!
Anyway, this particular wiring mod still works, for the scenario I wrongly described for Iceman..
Hobi
Thanks for pointing out the mistake, Rudy. Much appreciated!!!!

This looks very tempting. Great information Hobi. It will work on My car.
I guess if I were to get this all done, I would want the heated SMG wheel also for the fatter wheel, but the M5 wheel, HMMMM.

Hi CRRobert
Are you saying that when you ordered your car with Ventilated Comfort Seats, that you could NOT HAVE heated rear seats, steering wheel heating and headlight washers?????????????
WTF does ventilated seats have anything to the other three things??? Anyone?
Curious
