Hi everyone!

This was a very informative thread.

I have read it through and found some very useful information though I don't have a computer too hook up but rather a hand held unit with error clearing.

I have a 525da -07 with the combined cat and DPF that is mounted with the round collar-like fastening towards the turbo.
My car has a very respectable mileage of almost 490 000km. That is 49 000 metric miles. About 12 laps around the earth.

One thing that i read about in this thread and that I have thought about is that it's totally impossible to see if the turbo is failing with excessive oil leakage as a result as the DPF will catch that soot and clog up.
I HAVE noticed oil in the air tubing after the turbo and also on the intake temp sensor residing on the aluminum tube after the intercooler. So, there seem to be a lot of oil getting into the intake and being combusted.

I have a message that turns up after about 10 minutes with a picture of the DPF and the text that says Continued journey possible with possible power reduction. Contact BMW...
The car is almost powerless above 3000rpm and has an extreme lag from a stand still. The result is that I can't do any fast acceleration decisions as I will have almost 2 seconds of no reaction from the throttle peddle.

BUT, if I travel longer like 100km then the car will get some extreme power after maybe 50km and feels just great.
But the clogging of the filter seems to happen very fast once back in the city.
So, I suspect the turbo.
Also, I noticed that the oil almost instantly got totally black after filter/oil change.
That is something that I am NOT used to, having driven gasoline cars all my life...

Cheers!

Having some oil in air tubes is normal. If the DPF/CAT has never been changed in your car, I believe it is time now to do it. Or then delete the DPF. Of course it can be the turbo too, but I think the turbo has been changed or fixed at some point of the car's life.

So, what is Your take on the fast blacken oil?

As a side note, I will be taking a long 4 hour trip away and 4 hours back during this week.
Will be interesting to see what happens...

Also... why the heck doesn't the car start regeneration if the tank is half full or less, as stated in the thread???

Took half a day, bolts were a pain to remove but all is well. More torque, from 8.2 to 6.7/100km. Sportier sound, wistle happy turbo.

Very happy I finally dared to go ahead with it.

The dpf has been coded out out the ecu and the car has been remapped. It's a remarkable difference, the car is quicker, no longer sluggish and I dropped about 0.8 to 1 liter per 100 km. Very happy with it. Good luck to all of you attempting this.

So, I am back after the long trip.
I never noticed any regeneration sound at all during the trip.
It got a bit better but not by much....
UNTIL... Just being 70km from home I figured "what the hell, I press the pedal to the metal". Not very great acceleration at all, BUT when I released the pedal to go smooth again I noticed my fuel consumption was up to 0,15 liter per km!!!
I mediately shifted the gear to a lower one to get higher revs just figuring that the car was regenerating.
And I was right.
Suddenly I had power in my car again.
BUT, there was NO sound from extra burnt fuel at all from the regeneration process!!!!! NB.

AND also, the regeneration that I apparently forced by full gas was done with just a quarter of fuel in the tank!!!
So there is NO need to have more then half full tank. Not on my car anyway.

But I will try to get the filter opened to remove the PF without removing the CAT.

Still can't get mine to regen: I have BMtechnic software. I cleared the errors, got engine hot, went up and down motorway at about 65mph in 4th/5th with air con on and heated rear window, forced regen with sortware, nothing. I does say heavily clogged on the laptop, and the exhaust back pressure goes to about 190 bar when going faster. A stealer around here said they could clean it for £300, or a new one for £600 (that's if they use new?, don't trust stealers), I can buy a new one for £594 in GSF car parts, but I just can't get the old one off, can't even see it when under the car on ramps! Any more advice??
Also, if i do get new, how long will it take for that to clog up, I do more short journeys than long! If it takes years, ok, but months, i won't be happy!

could there be a glow plug fault, this can stop regen from taking place? Not sure I can test that with bmtec software?
