Okay, that explains it. I'm pretty sure that you need at least 12.0 to benefit from the speech-to-text dialing.

It's pretty cool, isn't it?

(Can speech-to-text Nav entry be far behind??)

It's way cool, actually. Speech-to-text NAV definitely isn't too far behind. It's obviously _very_ language/dialect dependent, though, as evidenced by why it's taking so long to get the Voice stuff working in the UK and other parts of Europe.

I wonder if BMWAG/BMWNA are updating the online and printed owner's manuals to reflect new/changed functionality in the software? Since we don't get a release notes file to read when they upgrade our SW, I would hope that BMW would somehow "get the word out" about these new, cool features, and about features that no longer exist but are in the documentation.

Do you think that the main reason that voice recognition works in the US is due to the software developers being US companies?

In In this document, it shows Visteon as a supplier for the voice activated Bluetooth phone (ironic that we can't use it here). I think Visteon (a division of Ford?) is US based.

Possibly, but doesn't it work in German, too? Not too surprising since I'm sure BMW wants the feature to be enabled in their 2nd largest (and home) market.

Not knowing anything about Speech-to-Text technology or algorithms, it's probably got alot to do with how certain languages are inflected and how certain character combinations are pronounced. It maybe that Germanic languages are easier to interpret than the Romance languages like French and Spanish. Clearly there's a lot to do with dialects, since within the UK the speech patterns are so different. One could argue the same in the US, but I think that a Brooklyn accent is much more similar to a Southern drawl than a Scottish accent is to Cockney or Welsh.

Does anyone know how many total languages they intend to support with the Voice Recognition system?

I installed the CPT9000 eject box and frame (part numbers (84 11 6 946 537 and 51 16 7 060 175) this past weekend and thought I'd write up my experience...

It was kind of a PITA, since I didn't have the knowledge to remove the sliding armrest (which would have made routing the cables way easy).? Anyway, the instructions from the bmwwireless.com site were good enough to allow me to muddle through.

Just for completeness, here is what the center console looks like with the original "upper" compartment installed:

Update on installation of box and frame to support Motorola V551 on 2006 5330i. Completed today based upon great instructions in this thread and others on this forum

Communications work fine but work through Bluetooth anyway............

Antenna strength seems great! Antenna connections were already connected in the trubk by BMW from factory!

Not sure if charger is charging cellphone. Made connections required in back of rear cigarette lighters. and checked all fuses associated with "telephone" (two in rear fuse box and one in glove compartment).

Did I miss anything?

Hopefully it shouldn't need any dealer programming. I am just using existing antenna and power connections.

There's a Service Measure regarding the eject box installation regarding the hook up to the vehicles antenna. There is a connection in the trunk that needs to made. I wish I had the bulletin to post. Maybe another member will post it. Best of luck.
Not sure if I'd worry about the antenna connection: The adapter bulletin says that charging and antenna will NOT operate with the adapter. And FYI, the CPT9000 install bulleting shows the armrest only slid forward, not removed.

This is still more than I want to tackle myself, but thanks for all your erudition. I'm still waiting for my dealer to sort out the procedure and order the parts. Let me know how that E815 flies.

Cheers,
Ray Hull
