I ended up taking it to a small start up shop owned by someone who owns a n54. Around $700 in labor, and now I'm DIYing the mechatronics solenoids and sleeve after a successful water pump replacement. Cheers to a new year, hopefully a brighter one for all of us!

I’m going to be tackling a “job” today using this guide. 2008 535i replacing oil pan gasket and turbos due to failed waste gates. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I did this a year and a half ago and tracked some of it here, maybe it can be helpful as well.

thanks!
yeah, I got a lot done today and I feel like I still have a ton to go.

any tips for these items?

-can’t really get to passenger engine Mount but due to inlet in the way.

-DP band nut is super hard to access and swivel socket doesn’t fit quite right.

-steering shaft won’t “pop off”. I’m assuming the rack has to be lowered for it to have room to do so?

I know I’ll get the turbos off tomorrow. Just going slow.

Just wanted to jump in here and say thank you for this post..i seriously think this is the one and only resource on dropping the subframe. I'd buy you a beer. I did have a bracket along the drive side with two t30's i had to take off to free the cooler lines. There was also a 10mm on a bracket in the center of the rack too...drop it slow so you don't miss anything. Cheers.

I literally (yes I mean literally) signed up to say thank you for the post. My 535I was sitting on block stands for a few months while I procrastinated because all of the other info I found on dropping a subframe (E90s and 528s) didn't quite fit what I was seeing on my car. I originally got the link from another forum you posted to in response to a member asking about dropping the frame on a 535I.

I'm currently doing the pan gasket on my 530i and having a similar issue with my steering shaft. Did you ever find a solution?
