My Ride: 2006 530i Silver with Black Leather 20% LLumar Window Tint

Hello to all,

I am anew BMW owner and had a few questions for all the BMW lovers and technicians,

I was looking on Ebay and found a few deal on the Navigation screen and DVD unit for $1600.

I can get this installed pretty cheap,

So my question is if it's reasonable to perform this retrofit and what needs to be done in terms of rewiring, dealer coding, etc..

I mainly want this retrofit not for the Navi itself, but to make a DVD player play movies and videos

* Some people say that the wiring on the car is complete different, but they still seem unsure. Does anyone know this for sure? *

need some info first, what year is your car?, the options fitted at the factory that sort of thing.

The retro fit it self is fairly straight forward but car will need re-coding in order for the nav to work properly.

The pro nav will not play DVD movie's,it will only play dvd navigation disc's,I think the unit's made from 2008 onward's may do.Like Blood said the install is easy but everything has to be coded in which if done at the dealer's it will get very expensive, some dealer's will even refuse.

as the others said, the wiring is the same, but you do have to have the car programmed at the dealer or an independent with an autologic unit. If all you want is DVD playback, I would keep your existing setup and get one of the aftermaket TV solutions (nav tv, tv on nav, what have you) because you're going to be looking at at least $2500 to get the factory nav and that STILL won't play DVDs (the drive is a DVD-ROM, not suitable for video playback.)

i heard that some alarm places can put a chip in to make DVDs work ( i have a friend who did it on another car). and I'd like to have a bigger screen. Just trying to find out if it was possible or not, and by these reviews, it seems that it is possible. Thank You Guys.

there is no chip modification available for the bmw units as there are for other makes because there is no tuner built in.

it is possible to retrofit the larger screen and nav unit- I did it- but as we have warned you, the car needs programming to make it permanent. the nav screen is way too wide for 16:10 or even 16:9 formats- it will not give you any benefits for DVD watching over the 6.5" screen.
