Oh OK, well what i do is when i see a layer of brake dust i use the high pressure washer to hose off the rims (when they are cool not hot off course).

If i'm driving every day and putting say 80 miles per day in a given week i'll hose off the rims every other day.

Anybody with the result of rim-ice, lately? How long they last, etc.?

I switched my front pads to Access Deluxe pads - virtually NO dust. I mean it is incredible. Currently the only make them for the front, but as soon as they add rears to their line up I'll be installing them.

Yes, I know after market pads, you might damage your rotors, etc...but a friend of mine has them on his M5, his Boxster, his wife's X5 and had a set on his old 540. Many miles, no problems. They work so well, its not even a matter of waiting to need new pads - I had the dealer install them on my car with 500km on it. Just amzing IMO.

Sorry it's "Axxis Deluxe" and hears the link if you want to read about them. http://www.zeckhausen.com/axxis_pads.htm

I own a 2004 e60 530i and I love most of it, all but the annoying brake dust on my rims right after a wash,. I have tried everything known to man, even emailing BMW NA support, and they even said that is the only complaints the get about BMW's, is brake dust, and wish there was something they could do to fix it and still brake effectly like these brake pads!

I have tried most everything, I thought i.e. from Dust Shields, to waxes, and other than the Frisbee type dust Shields nothing seemed to work good until last week when I visited a local BMW dealer and the parts manager showed me something new that repels the brake dust from your rim once applied for about 7 days. I thought to myself, right that sounds like a bunch of BS! But it only cost 3.99 that does 32 rims, and I bought it got home and tried it, to my surprise after about 200 miles and my rims are still clean looking with a very small even film of brake dust, and I would had not even know it was there until I ran my finger around my outer rim edge, and like I said it was so light! Amazing. SO now I am hooked on this new product I found named "Rim Ice" at Hank Aaron BMW near my home in Union City GA.

Hope this helps you like its helped me with the annoying BMW brake dust that gets on our clean rims.
Sincerely,
R. Eddie Presley
Is it safe for chrome aftermarket rims?

I had similar problems with my two prior BMWs until I found the easiest perminant solution. Replace the pads with Axis dustless brake pads. Will cost around $200 and will get rid of 95% of all brake dust. If you ask your service advisor, he will tell you on the record that BMW will not honor a warrantee on non BMW parts which is true. However, if you ask him on the QT he will tell you that it's no big deal and that they will still cover all brake components. There is absolutely no difference in stopping power and they are not at all noisy. They will quickly pay for themselves in time/effort saved, wheel cleaning/waxing products and you won;t have to wash your car as often.

Just ordered some one eBay. Will be great if it works since they do not make dustless pads for the rear yet.

You won't be disappointed - they are phenomenal, I can't believe everyone is not running these. Can't wait till they make rears...
