Scork -- there is a description of how to get software revisions off of the 7 I-drive and engine computer on another part of this Board (sorry -- I can't recall which thread). I was successful at getting the engine computer release levels info off my E60 using that routine, but did not try the I-drive part of it.

Perhaps if you test the method it you might get the rev levels on the I-drive and have specifics to discuss with the dealer rather than hearing his "I dunno" when you ask.

Good luck--

I too can not remember the tread in here but it is in the roadfly thread from a week ago, i tried it and i get alot of menues that has words like navigation and mp3 and things like that but know one has figured out the German wording as yet but what i did and use this at your own risk:

with the car on and with the ignition key on i tried it both ways
held down the idrive button for 6 seconds upon release turned the knob clockwise 3 clicks, then counterclockwise 3 clicks, then clockwise one click, the counterclockwise 1 click, then clockwise 1 click, then push the button down again and another menue will pop up on the screen revealing alot more options and test of course i was first afraid to enter any of them then i got bold and said if it crashes off to the dealer with it i has a lot of codeing and hex numbers but some of it is self explanatory try this and you may i think see the software version and the exact build date very interesting things going on in there as i said use at your own risk

problems encountered

guys - haven't a clue what you're on about but it doesn't sound like problems encounted - more like techno crystal ball gazing!

what's wrong with "my cupholder is knackered" or "the display screen doesn't come on"..

okay -- TMC does not work here in the UK, with business nav and the 5 series and probably never will.
and BMW basically seems to not care.

hi, I have my first (and I hope last) problem. Today when I started the car a message appeared on the screen telling me that there was a problem with the airbags and seat bealts. The dealer says it's nothing to worry about, they can solve it just by reprogramming the software, or something like that.

can anybody tell me if it is related to the software upgrade or not? thanks
I have / had the same problem - i-drive warning abouth restraint systems being faulty. Took the car in yesterday, and they said it was a faulty "control module" which they didn't have in stock. They kept the car in overnight, and I have just checked with them. They have now installed the new "module" and are "reprogramming the car" right now. I don't know if this includes an i-drive s/w upgrade or not.....

All this makes me nervous. I am about to get my 545. I hope I can avoid these problems.

be careful with too many technical/computer doo dads. new car, new year, glitches galore. loved how it drove, though -- nothing else like it.

This was to be my first BMW. Will not be buying one anytime soon, was very excited about voice and nav, and I find out voice activation does not work yet. Another software update needed. Sirius not working, and incompatible with Bluetooth, and overpriced. No thanks.
