[quote name='igor' date='Mar 8 2005, 01:20 PM']Anyway I can hardly beleive it that, given a German resident ordering specific BMW paint (which is not part of their Individual programme) from the factory pays EUR 3800,
US resident could get it for around USD 1800 from the same factory in Germany.
I wish somebody in U.S. tried it with his new e60. :'(

there are Individual colors and then you have the option to get any color you want... I guess your 3800 ? is for the personal color, and the 1800 $ is for the Individual color, if not ordered with a package.

Like ktulu said "any color you want in the U.S. excluding the reserved colors"....

I don't think that's right.
I think it's for any of the BMW colors, not ANY color.

correct, it HAS to be a BMW color...

also, some news from the admin over on the M5 board who was just in Geneva for the autoshow (he has access to ///M reps as well as Individual, apparently BMW is finally realizing that the lack of consistent info on Individual in the US is causing them sales so BMW Individual and M are working to come up with a way to inform US customers of the packages and availability...

But any BMW colour (except the standard ones and 5-6 more Individual) wud cost
EUR3800 in Germany. Even taking this poor choice of Individual colours if you refuse them in the package you will get EUR1900 credit in Germany (I hardly beleive that they reimburse the full price embedded in the package) which wud make about USD 2500.

I seriously doubt that these lazy spoiled people from BMW Individual cud make
"ANY color" at all. And if they wud it cud really cost a FORTUNE. For example, when asked (thru German dealer) to add M-aerokit to my BMW Individual car (I did not want to take whole M-paket coz I want Dynamic Drive and no sport suspension) they gave a price of EUR3,450 :'( Just compare it with the price of their BMW accessories catalogue of EUR 1,276 and bear in mind that BMW will keep the original standard parts.....
That is why I'am always sceptical when I hear such low prices for the odd colors of e60, unless it is painted in US. Though on the other hand for US everything is cheaper (cars, electronics, etc).

They can! I have seen it!
BMW Individual color costs more than BMW color. For your personal color you have to pay more.
I forgot the percentage you have to add, but they do it!

I dont know about all that. That would mean you would have to provide the color code and everything to the BMW factory DIRECT and they would have to enter that code in MANUALLY into the paint system? Sounds like a pain in the ass to me but maybe it could be done.

Don't be so sure. Porsche and other high-end auto makers will paint to any color sample that you provide. It costs - big - but they'll do it, so why not BMW?
