I am in process of finalizing an order for a 545 for delivery October/November. I have a recollection of reading somewhere about something called "comfort glass" or "climate glass"?
The Climacomfort glass code 356 is a laminated glazing on which a metallic coating is applied. This coating reflects the infrared rays, responsible for the elevation of heat. The glass reduces the heat on the dashboard by approx. 10 degrees Celcius (50F) after one hour in the sun compared to regular automotive glass.

This option has been available on all BMW models on the European market for a few years. But until the introduction of the E65 it was only available for the front windshield. The glass look sort of purple to slightly brown from diffrent angles and also a bit mor reflective that regular glass. Climacomfortglass is supplied by either by SEKURIT Saint Gobain or Pilkington depending on which BMW model.

I have some experience with this glass and I do not recommend it. The view through this type of glass especially in bad weather is not as good as regular automotive glass. The view through the Climacomfort glass is somewhat a bit unsharp and blured during all weather and light conditions. The heat reducing effect isn?t really something that you notice that much either.
Also a radar detector might not work behind the Climacomfort glass.

My advice is that you skip this option and save some money.
