The xenons are not standard on the 530. If you do not order the adaptive headlights it will come with the halogen headlights.

The way I read it you do not need to order adaptive headlights in order to get xenon. According to the brochure, xenons are a stand-alone option.

I'm UK based. Have ordered a 530d Mystic Blue (waaaaaay too many silver german cars on the road!), Black dakota leather, automatic, active steering, dynamic drive, rear side airbags (extra safety for the kids), auto-dim int. mirrors + folding exterior mirrors, bi-xenons, style 122 wheels, BMW Professional radio (MP3 playback I hope), Tracker monitor (essential), 5yr/60000 SMI.

I'll get mine on launch ie 18th Sept. So how can previous posters say they can get it earlier???

Btw, has anyone tried to get a discount from any of the UK dealers?

bazza:

I do not know how old your kids are, but I have been recomended not to have side airbags in the rear as long as the kids are younger. This is for two reasons. First, it is quite common that the kids fall asleep in the car and thus lean against the door(s). If the airbags go of then, they will cause more damage than what they protect. The second reason is the belt pre tensioners (that come together with the rear airbags) which might be a problem together with childseats. The childseats are not designed for the belts to be tensioned during impact. There is thus a risk that the childseat is turned or damaged by the belt on impact, and thus there is a greater risk for injuries to the child. Just thought that you might like to know.

Thanks very much for the info, mate!! I didn't know all that!.

Luckily, my kids are nearly 9 and 10 so don't need childseats or boosters. We've always used these large thick triangular pads that the belt/buckle goes through. When the seatbelt is worn, the pad fits snugly over a child's tummy & chest. It stops the belt from "cutting" into a child's body especially during emergency braking - has happened to us. It also stops the kids from falling over onto the doors or each other when they're asleep. I think we got them from Halfords or Mothercare???

hi everybody, I know this is off topic, but I've just come back from the dealer presentation , and since I have no pictures I don?t see appropriate to start a new topic. There were two cars (530i-530d, Silver Grey and black, both with leather in standard seats), and I?ll just say that the more I see it (and I've spent quite a while studying it, so to speak) the more I like it, both inside and out, despite all the controversy about its design. Still, I don?t like much any of the colours I've seen today, but of course that?s a question of personal taste, I prefer olivin or the amethyst grey, and the quality of the standard audio system is nothing to write home about, not bad but you expect something better in a car of this price. Hopefully next week I?ll test drive a 530i with Steptronic, although I`m interested in the 525i, but at least I''ll try the automatic transmission, I?m intrigued and maybe I'll get it. I?ll take pictures then.

If anyone has any specific question I?ll do my best to answer it.

Bye, and sorry for the change of topic, have a nice day

Just to add to the rear side airbag conversation, I too believe they could be dangerous for younger children and childseats. I design occupant detection systems for an automotive supplier and unless they have a sensor to detect that the child is leaning against door, it is possible for the airbag to cause more damage than do good.

Bazza, you mentioned large triangular pads to keep the seat belt on the child and the child upright. Does anyone know where to get such an item in the US.

Lastly, let me say that I too started on the roadfly forums and I am glad to have found a respectful and well thought out message board/forum. I am planning on ordering a 530i in March of 2004, white with the gray(light) interior, or silver gray with the gray interior. I really like the white E39, but I don't know how white will look on the E60. Has anyone seen any in white?

One last question, how do you think 19" Hartge classics would look on the E60? And, can you get these wheels with run-flat tires.

Thanks!

I belive even though I haven?t seen Hartge Classics on the new five that they will look good.

From the official Hartge website.
All HARTGE wheel sets can be equipped with Tyre Pressure Control (TPC)
and sets of lockable wheel bolts.
So I guess the answer to your second question is yes.

Beemer,

Thanks for the response! I will check out the Hartge sight. I have been looking to see if any aftermarket manufacturers have updated their website to include the new 5, but I haven't seen anything yet. If you find anything, please let us know.

Thanks Again,
-Aj
