From what I read about Heads Up Display (HUD) in the Roundel magazine that it will become available for the US beginning with March 2004 production yet. Roundel also mentioned that a Rear Seat Entertainment package that includes a rear seat video monitor, headphones, remote control, trunk mounted six disc multimedia player that plays DVD,s will be available as an option. Sirius Satellite Radio and Logic 7 DSP audio system is also available as an option.

Marvel, thanks for the heads up. I found the article on the web. You can find the link to the article here.

Litster, did you read the story about the new 6 series coupe in Roundel, I have the feeling the 3.5 liter V8 (275 HP) they will be using in that car will be the upgrade engine for the E60 in a year or two.

Marvel, I would not be surprised if the 3.5 V8 (535i?) replaces the 3.0 I6 530i in a couple of years. I think RichReg said that at the NJ BMW preview, the BMW representative would not answer any question about a 5 3.0 I6 or Valvetronics in the I6.

RichReg, did I remember correctly?

I am waiting for delivery late Aug/early Sept for a 530d, Titanium Gray/Auburn Leather. Options I took included xenon, sport suspension, through-loading system, cupholders. Decided against active steering and Dynamic Drive as I still believe in direct connection with the road.

I've put down a deposit and am second on the list for a 545i 6-speed at a dealer here in San Diego, but of course they don't have ordering and pricing details yet. They said I could probably get on the September build schedule, depending on what options I want. I've told them I want a Jet black/black leather 545i 6-speed (includes the Sport Package) with the following options:

- Premium Sound package
- Split-folding lockable rear seats
- Nav system
- HUD

The questions I'm trying to get resolved are the availability of the Nav and HUD. I'd probably forget the HUD if I could at least get the car with the Nav before the end of 1Q04. (Besides I have no idea what the HUD costs.) I also, would like to get the Sports Steering Wheel that shows up in the latest international equipment brochure. And finally, I'm not carzy about the wood trim options. I'll probably go with the Anthracite or Aluminum trim, but I think that I might actually prefer the Titanium - but it's only offered on the U.S. 525i and 530i models.

By the way, this forum is a refreshing change from the roadfly forums - people here just want to trade information about the E60.

Thanks,

---Bob

Bob, welcome to the board!

I am beginning to think may be I would order without HUD if I can get NAV early. But so far the latest ETA is 04Q1 for both options. Is the new sports steering wheel the same as the SMG wheel?

From what I can tell from the latest equipment list brochure (http://e60.doit.wisc.edu/releases/br..._Equipment.pdf - however, the picture detail is very low on that copy), the optional Leather Sport Steering Wheel looks identical to the SMG Wheel (including the shifter levers - which I assume would be omitted from models without the actual SMG transmission).

This may all be academic since it's not an official U.S. option, but I've asked my dealer to check it out with BMW on a trip they're making to Germany later this month as part of the U.S. launch preparation.

Question on headlights... dealer is telling me that E60 530 by default does not come with Xenon headlights and only option is adaptive headlights if you want Xenon.

I could care less about headlights moving 15 degrees but I do require Xenon.

I find it hard to believe that for 50kish BMW will still put non-Xenon headlights on this new model as standard. Anyone have any insite?

According to the US version of the E60 brochure "Xenon Adaptive Headlights with dynamic auto-leveling" are an individual option. There is no mention of other options or packages required.

I should tell you that there is a disclaimer in the form of a sticker on the back of the brochure stating that the info in the brochure was correct at time of printing, but BMW reserves the right to make changes...blah, blah, blah...
