Thumbs up

Has anyone ordered yet? What are your options, exterior and interior colors, and estimated delivery date?

I haven't ordered yet because Nav and HUD aren't available. I don't have any firm dates, but 1Q04 is being tossed around...

I'm pretty sure after two years into production of the e60 they are going to increase engine displacement once again from the 3.0 liter to 3.2 or 3.5 liter just like what they did with the e39 2.8 liter. If I can afford the 545i when it comes out i'll get it, if not, i'll probably just wait two more years for the bigger charismatic six cylinder.

Hey Das! I haven't ordered either. I am also waiting on Nav and HUD. I plan to drive the new car for as long as I can, so I want to load it up. The only option that I don't plan on getting is the Cold Weather Package

My dealer told me his guess is March '04 for Nav and HUD

What colors are you thinking about? I am leaning toward Titanium Silver.

Marvel, I think both 530i and 545i will be pretty powerful. I am sure both will handle great! You can't lose either way.

Dealer just faxed me options list/ ordering guide... I will most likely get a 530i thinking about Premium, Sport, and Premium Sound, Orient Blue, beige interior. I want xenons but dont care about adaptive ones where they follow the road... you think regular Xenons come on the car standard? did not see on sheets

Scork, Xenon lights come with the sport package. And you can't have Xenon without getting adaptive headlights. I don't see Xenon as a separate option either. I am sure the moving headlights will freak some people out on the streets!

I had an opportunity to look at the U.S. E60 dealer sales guide this afternoon. It looked like a regular brochure to me, but it was for dealer use. Anyway, all photos of E60s in the guide were in Silver Gray Metallic...it's beautiful color on this car!

I am currently driving a silver 1998 540i and am seriously considering the silver gray. If it's not too dark and looks as good in person as the photos, I'm sold!

I don't need the Nav and HUD, so I may order this fall. The dealer hasn't received 545i allocation as yet, but is saving a slot for me when he does.

I learned the adaptive headlights move a maximum of 15 degrees left or right. Is that enough to be really useful in cornering?

I currently run four snow tires in winter...do they make run flat winter tires? Any recommendations?

ZeZe, I think the adaptive head lights are most useful when you are driving on curvy roads, which most likely your turn rate is less then 15 degrees, going reasonably fast (35 mph+). IMHO, adaptive head lights is probably not very useful when you are going 5 to 10 mph, taking 90-degree turns.

There is a adaptive headlight animated demo at http://www.bmw.com/5series/. Pretty interesting.

I am not sure if there are run flat winter tires. There probably are. But I think you need special rims/wheels designed to use with run flat tires. Check out http://www.tirerack.com or Tirerack.com's ad at the back of Car and Driver or Road and Track.

Litster, you're correct about needing special rims for mounting run flat tires.

I have checked Tire Rack...on line and by phone. Not much luck on either count. The salesman said, "you can expect manufacturers of summer run flats to have snows available..."

Searching Google brings a little manufactuer specific info, but no pricing data. I guess I'll just have to wait awhile although I'd like to be sure they will be available before this winter if I order my E60 for fall delivery.

ZeZe, if no run flat winter tires are available this fall, the other option would be to buy a set of regular wheels and a set of regular winter tires. Yes, it wouldn't have the run flat feature. But you will have better choices of wheels if you go with regular wheels, third party or OEM.
