WOW...I've been away, but I missed one hell of a thread. urbo, this is your foglights...we all have one I guess. Let me just voice a few things. Forgive me, but I did not have time to catch up and read all of threads, only through page 7.

urbo, I think if you would have said "I feel" active steering is lame, you would have been a little more PC. You may not care, and that's cool with me, but you did (maybe inadvertantly) offend anyone that has it and loves it. You said anyone that knows how to drive, etc. I don't know everyone's credentials, but I believe this is why people took offense to your statements.

As for how it helps or how it is better than normal steering, I think the only way it is better is if you are close to getting into an accident and you need to turn or manuever quickly. there is no way that you can beat AS with hand over hand movements, so it may truly help in that case. Now you may say, those that know how to drive keep their eyes on the road, but accidents happen.

One thing I am happy about is the removal of AS from the sports package for 2006 MY. I have test driven it and didn't find it too troublesome, but I would not pay $1200 for the feature. I prefer the active suspension of the sports pack over the AS.

Lastly, a little heated discussion (at least on this board) is healthy. We all still love Iceman don't we!!! AND, urbo, you won two championships this year, the curse was broken, nothing as small as AS should get under your skin...IMHO

Dear Bmw,

Please put an on/off switch on all Active Steering options in future.

Thanks

In all honesty I was cool like Tom Brady during the whole game. But now I can smile since the game is over

It's like "this is your Vietnam.." in a way..

Ok I take it back... AS is worth it. I went to the M45 Preview today at the Infiniti dealership and Drove the M45... it doesnt have Active Steering and I found it took much effort more effort than I would like to steer the car around. At low speed parking lot and in city driving.

Reguarding the M45 vs 545... WOW the M45's engine was smooth!!!! Transmission Power delivery was very very smooth. Quality wise it was NICE.. but not as nice as BMW IMO. Doors were a little cheaper... material used were a little cheaper... their "iDrive" was ok... I'm use to the BMW iDrive and like it more. Their "iDrive" was out of reach... its on the dash. and more buttons around it to push. Over all for the price... its ok. But I would still pay the extra $$ for a 545 instead of it if I have to chose all over again.

What's an Infinity anyway? Is that a Nissan sub-brand?

Looks very, eh, cheap. IMO.

Definitely a big difference!!!

I traded my old car in for a 530d (m) with active steering in Dec 04. Parking lot manuevers etc are a breeze.

Can't say if its worth the extra cash (not as big difference for example when comparing non-power steering with power steering), but it makes life easier.
