tachyon, if you take an engine picture from the same angle as the ones in the following link, it's likely that Lomag will put it up as the 550 example...

tachyon - brother, your write-up brought tears to my eyes as well... :'(
Seriously, what a description of your first experience. I'm really happy for you. It makes me want to go out right now and put in my order, but I'll wait a few more weeks until they're actualy here at the dealership to see and touch and - especially - until I get all my questions answered. I will be posting what I want on the Parts, Accessories and Mods forum and will be soliciting your (y'alls) input sometime this week. I KNOW what I want - just need some input from those of you who already have the options I'm not sold on yet...
I have pictures of a 550 engine out of the car - from many angles. I took the pictures myself at the Dingolfing plant last Friday. I'll see about posting them later today - or sometime this week. This engine is on a stand at the Visitor's Center. It has the auto tranny, but it's a wonderful way to see it - from every angle. I went nuts with the camera.
Congratulations again on your 550i and best of luck with it. I KNOW how it went together - I saw the whole process last Friday. The tolerances are 0.15mm all around. Do you know how small that is? a 15th of a millimeter??? And it's measured by laser so there's no error. It's fascinating.
Best Regards,
Santiago

I think they look pretty good as they are - I just previewed the post - but let me know if you'd like a full-size shot of any.
Notice that the cover is different as on the delivered 550s - don't know why - I didn't ask.
On the last shot, look over my left ear on the background - the three vertical flags plus the BMW logo flag - you can see 5, 6, and 7 on them. That's what they build there.
Enjoy.
Santiago
PS. If you live in Germany or can make it here, make it a point to do the tour. It's awesome.
Where did ya get the 550i from what dealer, I go to Bill Jacobs in Naperville they have a 550i on hold for me there. Great service there, just wondering where ya picked it up at. It looks great too nice ride and i too am very happy for you.
