I have a 530i on order. I admired and then drove the RRS and was completely unimpressed - the engine was
not responsive and it seems to wallow around on a twisty road. It looks good and the interior is nicely appointed, but I got no enjoyment driving the RRS. As has been pointed out by others, the 5 series is also likely to depreciate much less.

My Ride: ED '07 530 soon to replace my ML500
previous: '00 540i6, '98 V70T-5, '95 318i, '89 Jetta, '79 Beetle Conv.
When my '00 540i6 lease was up I had the SUV bug bad.
My folks had had real bad luck with a X5 (caught fire in garage under 200 mi on the ODO), and spents LOTS of time in service. I got a '03 ML500 Inspiration Package (AMG seats, and misc interior bits). It's been fun, but will be my first and last SUV. It is fine for what it is, I really like the new RR. At the end of the day I am tired of having my gas light come on at 190 mi.
I was shopping much like you are: performance (for the time) SUV vs Sport Sedan.
Literally even if the specs are close, they are COMPLETELY different vehicles that a test drive might not convey.

My Ride: F11 520d white, auto, professional sat-nav with internet, variable damper control, sports steering wheel, extended lighting, retractable tow bar, wing mirrors with dimming & folding, full electric seats with memory & lumber adjustment, etc.
The reliabilityindex data is not very new and most of the poor index was down to the previous Land Rover Discovery which is now replaced. The RRS is based on the new Discovery platform which is very different to the old one. The RRS is a very different machine to the 5er and really not worth comparing, both are seriously good cars. Land Rovers reputation is on the rise and justifiably so, BMw was never in question although not as high as the Japanease.

Ask yourself - do you really want an SUV? Do you NEED an SUV? have you owned an SUV before and enjoyed it? What about sport sedans? I'm sure you know what you want.
