I have a Carrera S and while I am in the minority on this would not trade it for the turbo. Cost has nothing to do with the decision either. The way my S is speced it is close in cost to the turbo. I just prefer the NA engine, and once my warranty expires I am going to do some mods.

Ok, let's put it this way: There will never be an absolute no lag turbo. EVER! Turbo engines will never have the instant response the NA high revving engines have. I stand by this statement even for the future. It's simply technologically impossible. I haven't driven the 997 turbo but i am sure VTG helps address this problem but for sure the lag is there. In fact the supercharger has quicker responses than the turbo as it's belt driven and directly correlated to engine spinup, while the turbos are exhaust gas driven and need more or less time for the engine to start building up exhaust gas to get them moving. Turbo car IMHO will always be laggy, unless you get the turbos always spin up and blowing into the BOV and only when accelerating to cut the bov, which is almost impossible unless you change the turbo every couple of days or even more often.

If low boost twin turbos can function as seamlessly and with as few drawbacks on a V8 or V10 as they do on the 335's 6 cylinder, go for it!

It was a matter of time before the tuners started playing with the code and started getting the TT to seriously challenge the M3.
It almost makes me think the TT was going to be in the M at one point - but the designers decided against it and didn't want to waste the money spent on R&D. So they detuned the motor a bit, put it in a "normal" chassis and the rest is history.

I agree with some of the other posts. You cannot make a good assessment on a car, particularly an M, until after the break-in period is over. I have yet to drive the new M3, so I cannot state my opinion of the car yet, but I assure you that after a few couple thousand miles you will be singing a different tune.

My sister just ordered a M3, cancelled her 6-series order. I told her to test drive the M3 and she couldn't handle how good it was. So I will drive it and give a review of the engine and the new M double clutch transmission. I will wait until it is broken in, then I can rip it around.
