Donv,

You would have to drive your Z06 then or slip in a supercharger. Now, that would be a "sleeper" 5 series.

I'm thinking more of a 3.73 and a dyno tune. Very stock looking.

Ok, now Road & Track is saying the IS350 will do 0 to 60mph in 6.0 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.5 seconds @ 98.6 mph?

Who's right Car & Driver or Road & Track?

They had the Irish Premiere of the new Lexus IS in Dublin (for dealers and press) in some free warehouse space where I work. It's won't be seen by the public until November 17. The two launch models are the IS220d and the IS250.

I had a sneak look while they were preparing for the show and as the car arrived on the transporter. Obviously had to take a few snappies.

Although not a direct competitor to the E60, I certainly think BMW will have a fight on their hands when comparing it to the E90. I think the IS is a better more resolved design over their bigger GS. It almost makes the E90 look too conventional. Maybe the E90 should have been more Bangle'd. Interesting to see how things will develop.

IS250 Sport just off the transporter.....

I don't think there is a car available that is 100% perfect. E60's included.
One could easily quibble about the lights on the E60. Or the trunk lid. Or the understated cabin. Or the... one could go on.

What I'm saying is, the lights should not stop one from considering a car. I'd be certainly prepared to give it a chance. Even though I wouldn't class myself as a Japanese car lover. I would reckon though, that the gap between the current E90 and the new IS has possibly closer than the gap the E46 enjoyed over the previous IS.

The interior is typically Japanese and even has a characteristic new Japanese car smell that I noticed in other Japanese cars.

For the average car buyer (i.e. one who buys a car to get from A to rather than car aficionados, I would guess the IS could very well be close to the top of the buyers list in that segment.

I've attached a (not great) snap of the front.

Oh I think this will be VERY high in the top buyers catagory... The old IS was already selling very well this one is even better. So we all know what that means... will take sales from the 3 series...

I like it too. If I hadn't bought the 545i (was going to get the 330i), I would have bought this car. Looks nice.

[/quote]I am so straight-line performance oriented that I would have bought it before a 330i and likely over a 530i, but not over the 545i unless I had wanted to save money.
