I've just swapped from a 6310i to a 6230i. The cradle insert for the 6230i was actually less than I expected - IIRC around ?54 (I seem to recall the 6310i cradle was over ?60).
In practice I only use the cradle on long trips where I want to ensure the phone is fully charged - it usually just remains in my pocket/jacket/briefcase etc. There appears to be little benefit in dropping it in the cradle other than to charge it.

My V600 was always losing the signal and the bluetooth connection would eat the charge in a day.
With the cradle the signal is never lost plus I never need to charge the phone.
