The echo maybe a symptom of a bad signsl or an analogue signal. (analogue is unlikely with a newer GSM phone)

Good reception assumed, this problem is resolved by:

1) Playing with the volume settings when on a call to get the best audio for the other party.

2) Speaking softly. One has the natural tendency to speak louder as the voice is coming from speakers that are 3 or 4 feet away. The microphone however is sensitive and less than a foot from your mouth.
