My Ride: Oxford Green E60 530D with tuning box and all the toys!
Hi - I'm new to this forum: wish I'd seen this months ago! Keep up the good work guys. I have Bluetooth and this is as far as I have got:
My SE K700i will not work properly. Reports in the UK suggest that it will work with a firmware upgrade. Tried doing this online, but that system doesn't work either at the moment. I eventually had this done by a service centre. The phone STILL won't work. So I'm having a software upgrade on the car on Wednesday at the dealer. I'll report back.
I have been using the Nokia 6310i which works perfectly, but the phone is a bit dated and it won't link with SMS messaging.
Oh well, I guess that's what we get for being at the cutting edge of technology, I suppose!

Did anybody get SMS to work? Even with the 100% compatible T610 they don't come up on mine..
They do come up in the X3 tho..
For that matter, the K700 worked in the X3 aswell! Might that be a different bluetooth version?

Find a Compatible Handset - Not all Bluetooth phones will work!
Unfortunately, not all Bluetooth compatible phones will work (partially or fully) with BMW's Bluetooth systems. As such, ?Bluetooth? is an ambiguous term and insufficient to ensure compatibility. That is unfortunate, since "Bluetooth" is all that is typically included in the phone's description.
My experience is a good example: my do-everything SonyEricsson P900 does not work with my Bluetooth-capable car (the SonyEricsson P900 lacks a "handsfree profile" required to work with the BMW implementation of integration of cell phone and car). Successful 6 Series Bluetoth retrofit, but phone incompatible
Even if you have a "BT-compatible" phone with the BT "handsfree profile," there are other features that may or may not work properly. For example, the phone should automatically share its phone book with the car to enable a set of nice features: based on your phone's address book: Calling Name display and
BMW Customer Assistance has a short list of compatible phones (SE T68i, SE T610, SE T630, Motorola V600). A more extensive compatibility list is here:

Here's my contribution, but as we have already found out, there are differences in the firmware versions of the phones and software versions in the car. The new European X5's seem to have MUCH more versatile software for both BT & NAV etc.
