Am i really responsible.... being that its a bmw approved software update and i'm not getting it for nothing as they are charging me 2 hr labor for the software update 13.3.

What?

Of course you aren't. Get them to put whatever they think you're liable for in writing beforehand, then send it to BMW if they persevere that you'll be liable for any damage upgrading BMW APPROVED software updates...

That is silly. My car was a May04 build and I had BT installed without frying any parts. They can't tell you that this procedure fries parts since many others got this without problems. They are the only dealer who had that happen.

They should claim it as a warranty repair.

My car had an oil sensor die while in heavy traffic on a steep hill and stopped traffic for one hour with major problems before being towed away. Does that part failing mean that something else in my car might have caused it like BT programming. No, it was an eletronic part that failed, and was covered by warranty.

Upgrading for BT is done by updating the idrive software. If that could cause hardware to fail, then whenever you have to have the idrive software updated, you'd lose harware pieces. That is flawed logic, and eventually they'd have to update the software and end up with this dilema.

coolcase1 - That's ridiculous! Ask to speak to your Dealership's Service Manager and tell him you will have to escalate to the BMW Regional Account Manager if he continues to insist.

welcome aboard, coolcase1 ! i agree with the above posts. you can call other dealers and see what they say. i'm sure they won't give you the same ridiculous answer. then call your dealer again and ask them why would you need to pay for what they damaged .

If you have the inclination then raise a stink. Otherwise just find another dealer. Yes certain upgrades can crash the computer BUT its the dealerships problem. They just are too lazy to claim it under warranty. Case in point; with my very early BT retrofit. Dealer quoted me an hour of labor. He said if they ran into problems and it took longer they would claim under warranty.
