OK, So I purchased a pre-owned BMW last week. I thought it had Bluetooth, but did not see a menu option, but I did have a Bluetooth pairing code with my oweners manual. BMW SA told me that thet for a mere 325.00 they could "trick" my software into thinking that I have Bluetooth. Is this a scam? I also asked for an updated iDrive, and they said no. Any information would be helpful.

Check your car's production date (label is on the driver's side door jamb) and follow the instructions accordingly.

Sounds like a scam to me. If they know your car will work if they "trick" the software, your car is probably a post March 2004 build. Otherwise they would be talking about putting in a new TCU to make the bluetooth work. This would be much more expensive then $325. If you do a search on this board, you can probably find many reasons to have your software upgraded (idrive as you say) under warranty. When they update the software, it is just a matter of doing a retrofit of the bluetooth ( which amounts to turning it on ). My dealer did this at no cost to me. Others have been charged in the neighborhood of $100.

You might want to try another dealer that is a little bit more upfront with you. Take a copy of the SIB with you regarding the bluetooth upgrade. If dealers sense that you know what your talking about, they seem to treat you better. Good luck and enjoy your new car.

Frank, Im a ME TOO on the 5 Series, but just got mine a week later in Sydney Australia. a 530i, Built 06/2004. preloved by the Denmark Consulant ( till 3srd Sept 07). Now its mine for FATHERS DAY, with 18K Miles, Mysthic Blue, and no BlueTooth. CIP 19.0, exactly same circumstances with iDrive also.

I just rang the local BMW dealership, gave them my VIN number and they went away to see what it would cost. I just got a call and they want A$2000 ( what a joke) for this upgrade, clearly they have not read the SIB SI B841304 and DONT have the power of a e60 FORUM behind them.

I will try another dealer ( where the car was purchased from and did the warranty work) and see if they r any brighter. I will call the Service Manager and seek to see what extended warranty Services they can provide me and and what they can do for BlueTooth. I will need to see what the serial number is for

If I dont get a sensible answer Im taking in the SIB and facing-off some people for a real discussion.

WOW. So, I finally took my car to another dealer and just said my Bluetooth stopped working. They told me that my car did not have Bluetooth. I told them about the SIB and they said, "Oh, you actually do have Bluetooth", and procedded to program it for free. They also gave me MP3 capabilty on my CD player. It all depends on where you go, and who works on your car. Sad, but true.
