I just got my 2005 545 today and I am having the exact same problem with my v710. It will make the initial pairing, but then disconnect and reconnect. I have not been able to make a succesful call.
Very frustrating....

allow the address books in the car and handset to synch up.
People don't want to drive down the highway and tap little buttons when most of those controls and displays can be integrated with the automobile using today's technology.
Verizon is holding back on technology that Motorola has already developed. I purchased my $46,000 Bluetooth car and $400 phone at the same time, and now I am compromising safety, while they are playing games, including false advertising.
If BT update works, it won't be with the help of either Verizon or BMW. The "update" will sacrifice the most life-saving features of BMW Assist, and it won't be fully functional if he's a Verizon customer.
There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding regarding the v710.
The headset functions are not disabled. It pairs fine with the Acura TL which presumably uses a similar protocol to BMW. The file xfer functions are disabled by Verizon but they have a rational for this (jaded and BS but a rationale). I would expect there to be a hack soon for this fairly popular phone and relatively outraged public (not the real public but the computer people that might know how to do this). There is expectation that Motorola may have a fix for this....
Without file xfer you should still be able to use the phone through the mic/speaker of the car. You may also be able to access the voice dial functions and then does it really matter all that much if the phonebook doesn't transfer?
There is really nothing that any of the companies have done to justify a lawsuit (at least not for the 05s which have bluetooth functionality).
My car is still in the shop so I have not been able to try the instructions from Hormazd - I still hold out a glimmer of hope....

Picked up my 545 last week. I also have the v710 from verizon. I also have been trying to connect the phone to the car via bluetooth. But, like what has been talked about in this thread, it connects, then disconnects. I have never been able to establish a prolonged connection so I can use the phone. I am entering the Pass Key that comes with the car, but no such luck.
If anyone figures it out, please post the solution
Otherwise, the car is amazing.
