Any one Know what The "SMS" stands for in the Communications section of the manual? Does voice mail messages show up with an Envelope or just text Messages?

sms = short message service (or text message as we know it)

Depending on your phone provider, you might see a message like "1 new voice message" show up as an SMS message.

In other words, some providers send the new message notification as an SMS, some don't.

Does that mean if I go on the net and send an sms text message (or send it from a cell phone) that the message will automatically show up on the screen?? Does the cpt9000 have to be set up to accept the text messages or is this the default?

I think SMS is set up to interface with the V60 SMS so if you have a cellular provider and plan that includes SMS on your V60, then I think everything should work with the car's screen.

You are correct that an SMS message sent to the phone (by whatever method, internet, another phone, or email) can be viewed on the iDrive screen. However you can't send an SMS from iDrive -- as far as I can tell -- you still need to use the phone for that.
