No, you missed my point entirely. I said performance is the 1st priority. 17's do not come very wide, thus less traction. 18" is the best mix because you can get the width as well as everything else - aside from the best looks that is. At a certain point, the sidewall will become too flexible, another reason 17" is not ideal on a 4200 lb car with 26" tires.

on staggered, rears are usually either 275/25 or 285/25.
From what I've found - but haven't tried yet - on the summer performance front, my pick are the Nitto NT05's, but they are semi-slicks, so you might wanna take it down a notch.
