Default 205/55/17 front 225/50/17 back on 7.5j?

Hi all,

I need new tyres and am considering dialling some boatyness out of the front end at the same time. I am thinking of going thinner width at the front but keeping the same height by using 205/55/17 front and 225/50/17 back. I am on the stock 7.5j 17 inch wheels. Is this a good idea? What do people think?

How about tanky haha. I want to sharpen up the steering on the front making it a bit easier and quicker to change direction.

With too narrow a tire, you run the risk of the steering turning wonky (wobblily) on you. The weight of the car requires a tire that has some lateral stability. 215 is about as narrow as I would go on an E60.

The more I research the more it seems like a bad idea. Along with the wobble people are saying 205 is too narrow for a 7.5j anyway. I will probably just stay with a square setup. Just need to workout if (runflats - spare wheel) is lighter than (normal tyres + spare wheel). Then car-nerd out for a few weeks reading a million reviews researching what tyre to buy.

The reason I asked was because, I am running 245 in the front and my directional changing is quick and effortless.

You are right, the steering is actually very good. I feel a bit less through the wheel than my old e46 though. It was just a late night idea while browsing for tyres haha.
