I have driven my E60 for 10000 km by now. The car is rather sensitive to winds from the side and I have to compensate quite often. What is your experiance?

 

What size of wheels and tires do you have? 16" wheels?

 

I have used both 16" (winter) and 17" in a speed at around 110-120 km/h. I have later found in a few German forums that this has been reported an issue and BMW is probably aware of the problem.

 

In the 17" wheels what tire size do you have?

There was a stability problem with the 17" 7,5 wheels.
The tire size used was 225/50 17".
Some owners changed it for the 17" 8 Wheels and 245/45 17" tires.
Problem solved.

 

What you call a wind problem may actually be an active steering problem. The steering ratio changes at 120km/h!!! When you drive faster than 120km/h the steering is less direct. So, dropping the speed below 120km/h the steering is more direct but you expect the steering to react as it did at 130km/h, for example.

Well, its just a theory...

 

I have not noticed any problems with my non-sport and convensional steering.

 

My E60 has no wind problem. I guess there is not much wind in Singapore where I live.

 

I and antoher fellow 530i enthusiaste spoke on this issue at the onset of the cars release and we were quiclky told that we were just parinod the car does have cross wind problems but it is not like it is dangerous just anoying and i dont have the active steering just the crummy continental that came on the car i think some of the problem is them but the rest is in the cars beautiful design we just cant have everything but what we do have is the SHIZNIC

 

I too have had some cross wind problems with my 530i. The first time it occured I was a bit nervous but I have gotten used to it. Though I must admit that after paying close to $55k for this car I was not expecting to have cross wind problems. I haved the sports package and run flat tires plus premium package. The car is a beaut though and hella fun to drive, as noted by my two speeding tickets on the New York State Thruway already.

 

It gets quite windy here in florida sometimes (25 to 30 mphs winds) and I can feel the car sensitivity to the wind. (I had a loaner a few days ago and the wind issue was there bu minimally). When the conditions are normal, there is no wind problem even at triple digit speeds.
So far I got use to it and does not bother me anymore.

The mith of bigger tires will resolve the issue is wrong. I had it with the stock 18s and 245 tires and now with 19s and staggred setup, still have some of the wind issue.
