The NAV DVD does not come free in Europe.
And Yes you can copy the NAV DVD for Personnal back ups. I use the Back up instead of the original. It is too expensive to mess up. Plus I keep the image on the computer just in case.

For US spec cars delivererd in Germany, the NAV DVD disk does not come with the car. Sort of a catch-22 because when those of us who are temporarily in Germany go back to the US, we'll have to buy the US DVD as well...

For those taking delivery in Germany with a US Spec'd car, have you tried asking your US dealer (if you know someone there well) to send in the Navteq new car delivery form (where they will ship you a DVD if the dealer is out of stock)

I have to pay 273,11 euro excl. VAT for the DVD and I am in Holland. So in Holland it is not free.
Strange that you buy pro nav and have to pay extra for a DVD. Without a DVD the Nav is worthless.

The dealers kind of forget that info around here. I had to pay ?240.00 for that disk. Crazy it is. That is why I use my backup copy instead of the original.
There are alot of things that us US Spec guys miss out over here. You just don't know unless you are one of us. It sux sometimes. The only advantage is that we get our cars faster than the guys from the states. That is about it. And it is easier to get stuff swapped out for Euro standard things.

Thanks Everyone! It looks like we've got plenty of questions for a good FAQ now. I've got to pick them out and group them together into groups which make sense and get them answered. It need not be complete, but something pretty to make the FAQ section look nice.

Lomag: Eventually, do you think you wil be assigning these questions out to volunteers and then get the answers up here so people can review/comment/add perspectives? Or, maybe the faq can be a continuously running thread(s) like someone suggested? I wasn't sure if I/we should get started right away writing up answers. As I indicated earlier, I was concerned about significant duplication/triplification (word?) of effort. Thanks.
