Thumbs up

I was changing my rear console trim form wood to the black trim, in the rear under the ac vents. i shut the battery off, and after i finished the mod, I plugged the battery back in and the sevice engine light was on. did i make a mistake while changing the one piece. i don't think i did.
Can the check engine light come on from removing the battery? any body know why it came on i only have 19,700 k on my car. what could possibly be wrong? need help or advice, Thanks Ramiz
