Here's a couple of prime examples from the latest Car and Driver (Oct.):
Describing the styling of the Pontiac Solstice. ..
"Engineers looked to the Corvette for inspiration and came up with an architecture that looks a lot like a naked Vette that just got out of a cold pool."
And about power delivery in the Saab 9-3 Aero ...
"The steam built slowly at first in our relatively green V-6 turbo, rolling up like Ravel's Bolero in a rousing, whoosing, thrusting crescendo. Somewhere around the 6400-rpm redline, the motor would quit abruptly, and you didn't know whether to shift or reach for a Chesterfield."
Classic stuff, that.
Also in this issue, the new 330i noses out the Lexus IS350 to take top honors in a sports sedan test.
It's worth a read.

Best line I've read so far in the September 2006 car mags: Road & Track on the Porsche Cayman S (versus the BMW Z4 M Coupe).
"The Porsche ... circulates the track like a well-mannered electron following a wire."
Now I want one.

This month's nomination (so far) from the Oct 2005 Motor Trend:
"The BMW (Z4) is effortlessly the best of the three (Solstice GXP & 350Z): its road manners like a Luger's pulled trigger; its accuracy, pinpoint; its quality, peerles."

Dan Neil writes car reviews for the LA Times and may be the best automotive writer on the planet.
Here is his biting review of the new Lexus LS 460.
"Lexus has all the emotional appeal of a public golf course." ouch.
"Will there ever be a Lexus owners club?"
