Funny thing with the 135i is that it's considered to be very small, but in reality it weighs the same as an E46 M3. We have such a different opinion of small cars these days (at least in the US).

The May 2008 issue of Road and Track pegged the 0-60 and quarter mile times/mph of the 135i Coupe as 4.8 and 13.4/104.0 mph respectively. These times were essentially identical to a 335i Coupe's times that Road & Track published in its August 2007 issue of 0-60 in 4.8 and quarter mile at 13.4/105.1. My guess is that the tt I6 engine in the 335 that R&T tested was a bit stronger than that in the 135i Coupe that R&T tested.

Bottom line: the 135 is a serious sleeper rocket.

If the particular ttI6s in the 135i and 335i are making exactly the same power, the 135 should accelerate a little faster due to its better power to weight ratio. According to R&T, 335i Coupe weighs 3,570 pounds while the 135i Coupe weighs 3,340 pounds.

To me, the price difference between 135 and 335 is not that greater and I like the 335's greater room and (to me), better looks. I'd go with the 335i if I had to chose between 135 and 335.

Just to put that into perspective, this is what our E60's weigh in at:

e60 curb weight in kg (lbs)
525i 1540 (3395)
530i 1565 (3450)
545i 1725 (3803)
550i 1770 (3902)
M5 1820 (4012)

VS the 135 at 3,340 lbs.

Yeah the 135 is quick.... in a straight line. But there's much to be said about it's cornering ability. With a stock setup, you're looking at SEVERE understeer. I've driven a 135 quite a few times at some auto-x's and on infineon raceway and each time it's understeer, even with proper tire inflation for the track (42f/37r) and and a bit of negative camber in the front. So if you want to go fast in a straight line, this car is a good choice. But if you're cornering.... go with the 335.
