Well, a lot of people seem to heat up when anybody checks the BMW supposed brand superiority. Of course I never intended to claim that FIAT products are in the same class of BMW ones but, in any case, I think that the USB port built-in the car is a very clever way to download any kind of files into the car system, be it a musical file or videos or whatever. The only serious drawback I can think of is that installing in your car an "open" system could, possibly, bring into your car any kind of virus, malware and the like. For this reason I believe that, in FIAT cars, the infotainment system will not, in any case, be integrated with any other car's system the way I-drive is.

Yeah, but we cannot download any video or image files (MPEG3, MPEG4, WMA etc.) because the system cannot manage them and we also lack the hardware devices to use them. This is the great difference between the actual E60 CCC system and the new FIAT/Microsoft system.
I've installed an AUX-IN unit, too; and upgraded the software to accept MP3 files; and installed an RGB interface unit. But in any case, I just cannot download 20Gb of movies in the car and watch them in the 8,8 dashboard monitor, nor I can download all my Outlook contacts, e-mail addresses and so on.
That's not a great issue for me, I enjoy DRIVING my car so much that I don't care about watching TV or movies. Nevertheless, this is the direction towards which some car manufactures are moving now, to fully integrate into a series car real PC capabilities.

The new cars come with interactive OS installed. We are into a new chapter of auto industry.
For people likes new technology, he or she will change car more often to keep up with new gadgets, although the car still in great condition. Just like buying a computer, you just bought the fastest one today, but in 3 months everybody in your block are buying faster computers with cheaper price.
Come to think of it, it's very scary. The value of a car will drop more than before.

Do I sense Fiat bashing on this thread? I have owned 5 BMW's (currently a 545) and am lucky enough to own 2 Fiats currently (a 71 Fiat Spider w/ dual Webers and a 80 131 Fiat Abarth)--probably 2 of the most fun cars I have ever owned. I love BMW's (and Porsches for that matter) BUT IMO Italian cars just have more of a "personality" and are in a way a little more fun to drive. My old Spider has no power anything and it feels very "true" and driving it hard is a lot more challenging than driving my 545 hard. But nothing will beat the sound of an Italian Twin Cam and Webers after a proper heel-and-toe downshift!!! I am lucky to see Fiat in the forefront for a change w/ USB technology. I am awaiting the arrival of Alfa in the US hopefully in 2008?? I could totally see myself driving the new Brera as a fun "extra" car in the garage.
