Few questions:

1. Speed: better or same as in CD interface?
2. You mentioned FAT - is it DOS FAT16? How's about Mac formatted iPods?
3. Which languages are supported for song titles? Still English only?
4. Is 255 titles limit still present or is it gone?
5. Formats: are lossless WMA and AAC supported?

Thanks
Standard on most, if not all, MP3 players is FAT32. Well, some devices may use NTFS..
Regarding formats, the article mention this:
"On compatible devices, supported file formats include MP3, WMA, and AAC as well as playlists in the M3U format."

Mac formatted iPods when they are NOT used as storage devices are fine.

The Interface is not limited to 255 titles although there are limitations in folders and tracks within depending on which computer you have. This limitation is not present in the 6Fl although I am not 100% sure what the limitations will be

Ja, and I wrote this in my article

Sorry, the article only said "On compatible devices, supported file formats include MP3, WMA, and AAC as well as playlists in the M3U format.". I didn't find confirmation that lossless is supported. For example, Microsoft's own Zune does not support WMA lossless.

Hmmm. I thought in one of my articles (there are several I did on this) I said that. It?s late on a Saturday night, I cannot say for sure.

I will see what I can find out regardless.

Hello. I'm new here. Question on the new USB interface. If a USB thumb drive will work to play MP3's, is it possible to connect say, an external hard drive that is powered via USB. It should work the same way and you could store much more music. Thanks!

If the power is sufficient and the stars align, then maybe. Unlike solid state devices, hard drives park heads and do other things which might be, well, inconvenient to the system.

Don't forget that 3.5" desktop drives are not designed to operate in vibrations and temperature changes that are typical to the car environment. Laptop drives are better in that sense, but then you can get iPod with the same capacity.

(this is most certainly old news but...)
I didn't think of it before...but now I realise that the article confirms that the USB i/f is NOT located at the back (outside) of the armrest but INSIDE of it!

Ja, that is correct. My article is confirming this and I went to great lengths in checking with several BMW product managers to ensure that this was correct before I included this fact in the piece.

(And since I am ordering an LCI, I was very happy about it from a personal standpoint also)

Same here!
After some hesitation, caused by the supposed placement in the back of the armrest, I took the plunge and added the USB option in the last minute...I really wanted it but I could see my kids kicking my USB sticks to pieces...Now I'm happy again
Thanks for the info.
