How did the previous M3 compare to the previous M5? That will probably answer your question.

As an owner of both an e46 and e60, I'm always reminded of how small (tight) the cabin of the 3-series feels everytime I drive it.
Needless to say, the specs on the upcoming e90 M3 will be difficult for me to ignore (assuming BMW gives her some good numbers under the hood).

A recent spy shot of the E92 M3 said the photo taker could hear the V8 rumble
