Since we started to speculate..it does not do 4.0 thats for sure.
official figure for M6 is 4.6 and I think new M3 wont beat that, my guess is 4.9 as official number (old version 5.2, 335i coupe 5.5)...

Sorry I am talking 0-100km/h - dont know about the 0-60
I dont see your reasoning for the m3 to be slower than the m6. Its alot lighter and the horsepower isnt THAT far off. If anything they would be dead even

The old one was quick.
No doubt the new one will be quicker still...
You just need a dry road to be able to get the power down

Just finishes reading my AutoWeek and BMW is quoting only 4.8 seconds for 0-60 with 420hp. Hopefully they're quoting low. Unfotunately, in the same magazine, in an article titled "Not So Fast, BMW", the new Mercedes CLK63 AMG, with 500hp will do 4.1 seconds! The same article quotes the new Audi RS5 which will have the same 420hp as the RS4 and the new Lexus IS 500F which will have 400hp.

Yeah it is offical now. Only thing that troubles me now is to find out the weight of the car and after that how conservative (or not) bmw is with this 4.8 figure. And also i'm dieing to find out the 1/4 time (not that i'm that into drag racing but just for the fun of it)---> compared to M5/ M6. I suspect the M6 will remain the fastest bimmer in a straight line.

1655 kg official weight. That's not bad.

Lighter than an RS4 but not as quick.

...and I wonder if DSC can be completely disabled.

Is anyone else disappointed?

The following .pdf is for the European version of the M3 but the specifications section towards the end shows a 0-100Km time of 4.8 seconds...

What?
RS4
1650kg
4.8s(o-100)
420hp(7800)
430Nm

M3(2007)
1655kg
4.8s(0-100)
420hp(8300)
400Nm

It seems that BMW had a clear target...
