It probably depends who you ask. BMW states the 335i travels to 60mph in 5.4 seconds but a number of car publications have done it in less than 5 seconds. I've seen 4.8 and 4.9. I own one...and its damn fast. While the M3 has more horsepower, it only gets to 300+ lbs-ft of torque at 3800rpm. The 335i is a smooth 300 from 1400-5800rpm. There is so much low end torque that I think it would be quicker to 60 than the M3. Just an opinion though...I'm not expert.
On that note...I don't understand why they wouldn't equip the new M3 with a twin turbo?

Stock for stock, I can guarantee you that the new M3 will be faster to 60 miles and 1/4 mile than your 335i. My bet is that the M6 will remain the fastest M model.

My Ride: 535d touring 2006 M-sport, Mystic blau.
Since we started to speculate..it does not do 4.0 thats for sure.
official figure for M6 is 4.6 and I think new M3 wont beat that, my guess is 4.9 as official number (old version 5.2, 335i coupe 5.5)...
Sorry I am talking 0-100km/h - dont know about the 0-60

Here's my best guess:
BMW will see to it that the M3 will NOT be quicker to 60mph than their very own M6. That's just bad business.
BMW will not step on their own feet.
