Remember "New Coke"? Market surveys said people wanted softer, sweeter taste; but that's not why people bought Coke in the first place, so the New Coke totally bombed. It's wrong to assume that making BMW look like the single "most popular" or average car will sell the most cars. People buy them because they're different. If it looks like a Lexus, people will buy the Lexus because of reliability.
