Not sure about the E60. But on my last manual E39 there wasn't any safety feature. And not on my present manual E46 either.

But what I was talking about is the automatic start procedure. On a step and SMG the start engine runs until the engine is started even though you're not holding the key in 'start'. I don't think you have this feature with a manual gearbox. Am I right?
