I just got in the mail today my first recall of one of my BMW's. The recall was on my 03 325xi for Ignition coils. It possible that I am now polluting the air. They also said if I go to have it inspected and the coil has fail, I'll probally fail the inspection. Who would have thunk it

That's very interesting. What does the recall letter actually say? My wife has an 03 model 318i and a month or so ago, it had the ignition coils replaced as a result of the car running on 3 cylinders and us calling out the BMW Emergency Assist. The guy who came to look at the problem knew exactly what was wrong and replaced all 4 ignition coils in a few minutes which made the car run sweet as a nut again. He said it was a know problem which surprised me a bit as it seems in the UK, BMW aren't recalling the vehicles for this fault, but just waiting for them to fail.

Here's the details I posted at the time:

[/quote] I have just had all 6 ignition coils replaced today on my E60 520i UK. spec. Dealer found a problem while car was in for a Microfilter service. This was a surprise as at least one had been replaced last year by a different dealer after i-drive showed up an engine fault. However it turns out they had fitted the wrong type for my car so my new dealer replaced the whole lot under warranty. It does seem to be running better or it could be just imagination. Will see!
