I thought Tipping was a city in China...not a BMW thing!

...If somebody scratched my car and I had it painted would the value be decreased automatically because it was not original BMW paint?
Yes. By about 15%.

I can't believe this isn't on the news, seems to be kept pretty low key
Strange!

Seems like the liberal media would be all over this story like a fat girl on a commode!

Didn't you know that? About 1 among 10-15 cars of any brand, has got a slight damage during delivery process, that has been properly repaired and you will never know about that You also have the warranty covering, in case something's wrong.

While I realize "slight damage" repairs have been the standard for a long time, what is shocking are the pictures here with "major" damage and the quote that the cars will be repaired and sold as new...that's what folks here are responding to...cars get dinged/scratched and repaired during the deliver process all the time - although I still would not accept a new car if it has had a fender or quarter panel or bumper repainted (if it was disclosed to me)...I'd simply pass on it and order another. That's exactly why they don't disclose it...a person ordering/paying for a new car wants it perfect and there's nothing wrong with that

I would assume, (hope?) that any car with structural damage is destroyed for liability reasons. Just replacing fenders, doors, bumpers, etc with proper painting should make the car like new. I would still not want it but I bet no one could tell the difference. It shouldn't loose its value either. if all they did was pull out a fender, putty it, and spray over any area, that would be bad and devalue the car.

We on message boards have the upper hand. I pity the unsuspecting buyer that has no clue. I think all it would take is for those in the know to raise a ruckus and BMW will be forced to disclose the issue on repaired cars.

This also happened in the summer of 2006 in the Pacific. A car carrier with over 4200 Mazdas on onboard listed during ballast transfer while enroute across the ocean. Mazda wrote off all of the cars and posted the vin's on their website to ensure the public new of the salvaged vehicles.

4200 less Mazda's on the road... that was probably a good thing

Jonathan, will we be able to board a vessel during our tour? You have any updates on this event? I am very much looking forward to it. I drop my car in Munich on Feb. 23rd. Maybe we'll see my car at the VPC when we go. your thoughts?
