A couple posts up above, someone touches on the Japanese culture. And I think that's a great point. IN GENERAL, the Japanese people have a very strong worth ethic and USUALLY take a lot of pride in their work. If that means working 18 hour days, so be it. And that shows in their Quality Control -- it really does.

The part about innovation is a decent point, but a little off topic. I could care less who invented the engine, electricity, the automobile, and even something as small as MP3 when I wonder why BMW has poor quality control (what the topic of this post is about).

The ?build it and fix it later? philosophy has a lot of us frustrated.

But I just bought my 3rd BMW because of the way they drive!

True. I feel the same way. I did not buy BMW because Germans invented automobile. Or is it Ford?

It's not the BMW philosophy.

The problem with the E60 is, that there were too many problems and they couldn't find them. So the guys from the Dingolfing plant became testdrivers, and the problems were not solved... Then they decided to start the production. Everything else would have ruined them.
This is NOT the new BMW philosophy, but when you go new ways, you experience new problems. Sometimes just too many, unfortunately.
The 1er or the 3er don't have as many issues as the 5er's or early 7er's.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope we get there soon.

you are very right Iceman, it happens with all products quality control issues is a serious problem for anyone dealing with mass production of products. Another huge problem in my opinion is the use of Microsoft software for the I-drive, which is why it is so ridiculed with so many damn bugs. You hear all these damn journalist complain about it, but yet they don't complain about XP, damn dodos. ok i'm getting alittle carried away, but MS needs to help in fixing the damn code in that POS they want to call an operating system, so all the things can work better and people wouldn't be needing to update their software 19 times!

why not go with LINUX to port future C++ and perl apps easily, i don't know. somewhere down the road a BMW exec chose this OS instead. and to think bill gates is a porsche kind of guy.

Detail is the key. The Japanese love details and they pay attention to them to the Nth level. I bet they plan everything at the onset what they want to include.

But are they always behind now? I don't think so.

Hahah but that article says "ROBUST" Windows CE... now wonder if they ever looked up the true definition of "robust"

Japanese cars are the first with Bluthtooth (Acura TL), first with DVD NAV (Lexus), first with NAV with Traffic report (Acura RL).

They are not behind BMW/MB anymore,.
