A counterbalance my other thread...

Generally speaking, I love Apple. I really do. Then again, the company occasionally pulls stunts of such glaring stupidity that you wonder what they're drinking (or smoking ) in Cupertino.

Apple's rejection of Google Voice from the App Store is one such example.

The FCC is now investigating (particularly, it seems AT&T's role in the whole debacle) and it's sent some very interesting letters to Apple, AT&T and Google.

Here are the letters:

I am curious about the reason Apple would reject the app. Could it have more to do with ATT or Apples contracts with carriers? You can get it for BB and Android phones but does that have more to do with lack of ability to block the app on those platforms?

Not really related to the original post, but...

The word is the iphone will be on Verizon early next year. Verizon is upgrading their network to LTE.

Now everyone can leave crappy ATT wireless, they are a dreadful operation.

To address Both Points:

1) Most likely ATT used their influence with apple to not allow google voice. As it allows for Free text messaging, and would be too much of a bandwidth hog for the ATT network.
ATT Puts the blame on Apple since it's an "appstore app" therefor, they're clean of the matter.

2) as for the Verizon bit, 2010 is the key year most likely for the Apple "mini." Rumor is, it's a mini notebook.

Why don't you share your knowledge and join the conversation? Instead of rolling your eyes. Their are some credible people that cover tech, that have rather reliable sources. ATT will lose its iphone exclusivity, they have been trying to extend their contract with Apple. Verizon is currenty upgrading to the 4g network. Do you think the iphone will be only on ATT forever, I sure don't. Sure ATT would lose sales, but it would lessen the demand on their infrastructure. Allowing Verizon to carry some of the load. Of course everthing is really speculation, but it is fun to talk about it.

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

I say the hell with AT&T, I bought me a PRE

But seriously, I was reading about this earlier this week. I think Shadezero hit the nail on the head. At&t has bandwidth problems and instead of upping their network, they just postpone it and tell apple: No SMS, No VoIP, etc. etc.

I'm interested to see this "apple/verizon" notebook that people have been speculating.
