When Depeche Mode was big I was in middle school. Even still my favorite artist from then was without a doubt Prince. Waaaay to many good songs of his from the 80's - and the movies?!?!?!
The Goonies
Weird Science
Lost Boys (another great soundtrack)
E.T.
Top Gun
Rambo
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Anyone else remember THESE movies:
RAD
Breakin
Beat Street
The Last Dragon ("Kiss my Converse!!!")

E.T.
Top Gun
Rambo
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Man, DM was just in town for their concert ... and we missed it
+1 As Joe said ... must be an Asian thing
PM me your 80s playlist Tony!
Duran Duran was probably my favorite pop band of the 80s...arguably THE BEST band of that decade.
Around '85 though I started listening to New Wave. It was a relatively new type of music mostly listened to by Vietnamese/Chinese and all the artists were from Europe. One of the most popular group was Modern Talking. Some other favorites include CC Catch, Bad Boys Blue and Joy.

Unfortunately, I never heard that song before so I can't tell you exactly what I was doing...
(I know, you gave me a year but that takes the fun out of it! )

In 1987 I was 15yo and sneaking into a "New Wave" club in downtown Pittsburgh with my friends where they definitely were playing this song. I can't recall the exact name of that place, but it had been a bank in earlier years so it had some very "Matrix Revolutions" interior stylings.
Also back in those days, Pittsburgh had a killer radio station - WXXP or "double X". It was a staple for the kids listening to this sort of music.
This article gives you an idea of what was going on the 'burgh back then as it relates to this music:

One of the well-known DJs from WXXP now has some airtime playing the old tunes on XM/Sirius.

How do I do that? Is there a way to just export the listing of songs from the playlist? I have over 180 songs and I'm not about to type each one of them into a PM. hahaha
