He was really nice and would let us drive cars in exchange for doing detail work. I felt like the luckiest kid in the world. Anyway, he had this red De Tamaso Pantera, which already was old at the time, but still looked great. He let us take it out one Saturday night. It was a blast--the acceleration was phenominal (or so it seemed to a couple of kids), the engine (351 Cleveland, I think) roared, and everybody stopped to look. The downside is the heat coming from the engine made it unbearably hot. The seats were not ergonomically designed, to say the least. You could feel the springs. Even at 17 years old, I woke up the next day with a backache. What a fun car, though.

I'm quite large (1m88) so image this: Steering wheel the size of a truckers steering wheel (had to spread my legs to drive), gear lever that hits your kneecaps when shifting into 2nd, seats that feel like you're sitting on a wooden chair with a really thin pillow. Not even an ashtray, so had to buy a stick-on ashtray!! Top speed (downhill) 130km/h or 85mph
But in all fairness that little thing could take one hell of a beating and still keep going, had a fuel economy that a Prius would be jealous of and was my first car ever. Even managed to bend the laws of physics with it by parking it between cars so close that I couldn't get out afterwards
After that got my dad's BMW and been driving BMW ever since.
