With the 3rd quarter out of the way, it's looking like I should plan on getting some appreciation gifts for a few people who are involved with a large client of mine. In particular, 75% of my income comes from a company owned by one man.

Problem is, he is hugely successful and could buy anything that he needs or wants. What would you suggest as a gift and please be specific. I'm thinking in the $500 range or under. Age is early 60's, location is central united states, fairly active, enjoys a drink every once in a while, values family and treats employees great.

Thanks,

Might need to research a bit. Maybe a collector's item for the office or living room display.... Since you say he's got anything that he could want, try to get something a bit out of the ordinary.... Or maybe cuban cigars if he smokes 'em... LOL

I don't know him very well, but I know golf is one. Also know that he has owned race horse(s) nice enough to take to UEA (Dubai?) a while back. All appearance are of a person who does not showboat, drives an everyday car (probably less expensive than mine) and is all around very conservative. On the other hand, I know that he treats employees and customers well (e.g. took several dozen -1 bus load per day - to Ryders Cup for the entire week).

Also, is there a point where one's gift could be viewed as an indication that he is benefiting too much from a business relationship? I am not, but don't want to appear as if I am either.

Am I in the ballpark as far as my stated budget?

in my opinion its not the price of the gift you want to buy.. its the gift itself.. if it costs 50$ or 500$ it doesnt matter... what matters is the thought and appreciation that is behind the gift.. that being said i think it makes it more difficult to get a touching gift for him.. i would seek the advice or your wife, close friend, etc... check out something different at some online stores.. such as www.thewirelesscatalog.com or www.signals.com ive bought some unique gifts for people when i have no CLUE what to get them.. the kind that "have" everything..lol hope i helped a little.. Are his children still live near him? spending time with him on a regular basis? if not, i guess accompanying him regularly like a son to a father would be a v special gift... ...

Seems kinda high. I agree with Mel...it's the quality of the gift and not the amount spent. Think about finding a gift that fits his hobbies. Is he an outdoorsman? If he is, what about a nice custom knife. $150 - $250 will get you a nice one. $2,500 will get you in trouble!
