Rolexes, like Hermes ties, are timeless.

They are so classic. Not overdone. Just classy. I have 10 of them -- none bought in the US as they are cheaper (or at least used to be) in Europe and there are some good Ebay sellers of them. But in terms of volume, my go to tie brand is Lanvin which I buy either in Europe in at Century 21 in NYC.

Bernie Madoff owned my all time favorite watch which was auctioned off today for $29K -- the Rolex Daytona in 18K gold with a black dial. Retail price new is just under $30K. Madoff's, which was from 2004, went at auction for $29K, There was a "Madoff premium" on it because you can pick up one from that time period for about $19-$21K. That's way out of my watch price range but if my ship ever really comes in............

I have more ties that I care to admit.....The Daytona is a classic and collectable watch. Check out this guy's collection....he posts on one of the watch forums that I read. I nearly fell out of my chair the first time I saw that photo.

OMFG, that's like 15-16 Daytonas. Value is about $300,000, give or take about $100K either way.

Wow. But not one of them is my favorite combo of 18K gold with the black dial.

If you think that is something - here is one of his posts showing the greater collection - That's a whole lot o' rolex! (plus some other nice brands as well)
